Just over the county line in Alton, a restored 1880s stone mill on Shaw’s Creek now holds 20 to 25 studio artists, multiple galleries, a jewellery design gallery, a heritage museum, the Gourmandissimo café and a handful of shops. Free to walk in.
Give it two hours minimum. Sculptures hide along the creek behind the building, and most visitors never go round the back to find them.
Before you go
Open Wednesday to Sunday and holiday Mondays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individual studio hours vary, so if you’re going to see a specific artist, contact them first. All studios open on event weekends.
Free parking, four Level 2 EV chargers, wheelchair accessible throughout with an elevator.
Worth pairing
The Millcroft Inn and its waterfall are two minutes away — the easiest “make a day of it” combination in the region. The Fire & Ice Festival takes over the mill for two days in late January.
Close enough that plenty of Dufferin residents treat this as their local gallery, which is why it’s on this list despite technically being in Caledon.
