Bruce Trail — Dufferin Hi-Land Section

56.3 km from Mono Centre to Lavender, roughly the halfway point of the 900 km Bruce Trail — plus four published loop hikes that are the least-known good hiking resource in the county.

56.3 km · Mono Centre → Lavender·Free

The fifth section of the main Bruce Trail and roughly its halfway point, running 56.3 km from Mono Centre to Lavender past Mono Cliffs, Boyne Valley Provincial Park and the Pine River Fishing Area. Free, and managed by the volunteer Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail Club.

The four loop hikes

Most people walk the main trail out and back because they don’t know these exist. The club publishes four loops, and they are the most useful hiking resource in Dufferin County:

  • Mono Cliffs Park Loop — 8.8 km. Walter Tovell side trail → Lookout side trail → main trail. The best single hike in the county.
  • Splitrock Loop — 3.8 km. Park at the BTC corral on 2nd Line E, 1.2 km north of 25 Sideroad.
  • Primrose Loop — 3.3 km. County Rd 19, 800 m north of the Boyne River bridge.
  • Boyne Valley Loop — 6.4 km. Lot at the end of Centre Road, south of 5 Sideroad.

Camping

Overnight camping is permitted only at designated Overnight Rest Areas — Black Bank and Murphy’s Pinnacle. Nowhere else on the section.

Badges

The club runs a Red Trillium Badge two-day end-to-end challenge each May, and a Seven Rivers / Headwaters Badge series spanning the Blue Mountains, Dufferin Hi-Land and Caledon Hills sections.

Note: the Mono Cliffs Park Loop starts inside a gated provincial park. You’ll need a day-use permit booked in advance.
