  • Check current Fisheries Management Zone 16 seasons and limits before you fish — they vary by water and by date.

If Island Lake is where you take the family to fish off a pier, the Pine River is where you go to actually fish. Local tourism material identifies brook and brown trout, and the water suits fly fishing in a way the reservoir does not.

It is also part of the Dufferin Hi-Land section of the Bruce Trail, so the walking is good even on a day when nothing is rising.

Check the regulations first. This is Fisheries Management Zone 16, seasons and limits vary by water and by date, and a valid Ontario licence is required. Nearby stretches of the Boyne River carry sanctuary restrictions for parts of the year — it is not a “turn up anywhere and cast” situation.
